Josh started at Ryan’s in September 2009.  His expansive knowledge of Single Malt Scotch, and Whisky in general, has been a boon for the store.

As a Musician, Josh often performs in venues with a diverse selection of wine and spirits.  “I always ask about products that are unfamiliar to me,” informs Josh, adding “I typically try any spirit that I find intriguing.”  At gigs, Josh finds that speaking with patrons and employees about various products and aspects of the industry not only allows for a mutual exchange of knowledge, but also helps to improve his communication skills.  This exposure certainly enables him to give customers at Ryan’s truly informed opinions on a wide range of products.

Josh will typically be found on the liquor wall, both filling the shelves and assisting customers.  His fondness for Single Malts and other Whiskies has earned him the nicknames “Scotch Guy” and “Whisky Man” by co-workers and customers alike.  Josh also mans the register and has an ever expanding knowledge-base of wines, with a personal interest in ports, chardonnays, and softer-style reds.

Josh earned his Wine & Spirits Education Trust Level II certification in 2010.  He’s partaken in several Whisky classes offered at Ryan’s, as well as industry tastings in Rochester.
