2017 Finger Lakes Dry Riesling, with age, has developed more of a classical structure and “tone” since its youth – think savory, wild Rheingau rather than classical Prüm Mosel. We make it in the same way as our single-vineyard Rieslings (wild ambient yeast fermentation; no temperature control; no fining or filtering and very limited S02 only at bottling). Finger Lakes Dry Riesling is a blend of both vineyard sites – west side of Cayuga Lake, east side of Seneca Lake – from barrels that remain after we have determined first selections for our reserve single-vineyard offerings. In a sense, this is what makes Finger Lakes, though an “entry” introduction to Bloomer Creek, a fascinating and superb value because you are getting the harmony of two terroirs, not one. In doing so this blend reveals the essence of Bloomer Creek, a prelude to the singular nuance and intensity of our single-vineyard expressions.
