Ryans Wine has one of the most extensive Finger Lakes Wines that compliments our New York
Wines selections and we are very excited to welcome a new NYS winery to the Ryans family! (If you
came to our big FLX tasting in Nov, he was pouring the Element Wines!)
We are very excited to welcome a new NYS winery to the Ryans family, Wild Brute Winery in Arkport
(near the Hornell area). Justin Recktenwald is the owner and winemaker and this is his first release,
an off-dry FLX Riesling 2013. The grapes are from the east side of Keuka Lake with a RS% 2.8 and
an alcohol percentage of 8. It has this great flint/minerality to the finish. The acid is definitely there to
balance the sugar but in no way takes over the wine. If you are a fan of German Rieslings, we
recommend this one!
It is in our various “other” New York wines section and is on sale for just $21.99. What makes this
wine so great is that Justin was only able to make 40 cases of it! It is truly small-production.
The grapes are all hand harvested and hand sorted, which lends to this this being a low-production
wine and only wild yeast strains are used (vs cultured). Wild yeasts can quite often be naturally
found on the skins of the grapes as they come in from the vineyard.
The next (2014) vintage will be considerably drier as Justin let the wine just “do its thing”, and then
he carefully crafts it into the best product prossible. This makes for a fun tasting and buying
adventure! Buy a few of each vintage, one to drink and one to stash away for a few years and see
how it develops!
This spring Justin will be releasing a Cabernet Franc! We can’t wait for this new addition to his
Finger Lakes Wines selection!
